Cute, Easy, DIY Curtains for Your Classroom!

Are you a crafty person?
Do you wish you were a crafty person?
Whether you are crafty or not, we have the most adorable DIY curtains to share with you that everyone can make! No special sewing skills are required!

We are very excited about these cute curtains! You will love them!
What materials will you need to complete this project? You will need:
*fabric scraps
*curtain rods
*scissors

We bought a jelly roll of different fabrics from The Quilt Ranch on Etsy. However, there are many different places you can buy fabric from. What is a jelly roll? It is strips of fabric that have been rolled together like a jelly roll. The colors are also coordinated for you! They are so pretty!

We bought tension rods from Wal-Mart. We each needed five rods because we have five sections of windows in our classrooms.

We suggest laying all the fabrics out so you can see the different colors and designs.
Here is what was included in our jelly roll:

Next, you need to decide on the length of the fabric pieces. The jelly roll comes with 40 strips of fabric in different colors and designs. We tried out both a long strip of fabric and a short piece of fabric to help make our decision. We also tried two different ways to tie the fabric to decide which way we liked best: tying a typical knot or making a loop knot.
We decided we liked the shorter length of fabric and the loop knot (on the right).

Since we liked the shorter fabric the best, we cut all the strips in half (which also gave us twice as much!):

Depending on the colors and patterns of your fabric or on your overall level of OCD (we are on the high end, haha), you might want to decide on an order of fabric before you get started. We initially thought we should do that and tried it at first but quickly realized that we didn't have enough of each color/design of fabric to make it a pattern, so we stepped outside of our box and put pieces together randomly.

Now it is time to put your curtains together!

First, fold the strip of fabric in half:

Next, put the strip under the curtain rod:

Third, open the top of the strip:

Then, put the ends of the fabric through the loop at the top:

Last, pull the ends all they way through to make a knot at the top:

Repeat the above steps until you are satisfied with the number of strips on your curtain rod:

Soooo stinkin' cute!!!! We are so pleased with how these curtains turned out!

Our very last step will be to spray the curtains with fire retardant spray so the fire marshal won't make us take them down. They're too cheery to take down!

Thanks so much for hanging out with us today! We hope everyone is having a great start to their new school year. If you are like us and haven't gone back yet, we hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!
